Our Story …
At Lily’s Florist Cessnock we love doing what we do. Actually, it’s a prerequisite for our team. So, if that means we’re full of passionate people, from computer geeks to creative floral artists, that passion is well-guided.
Even though hard work and extraordinary trials are there, we believe they are not an inconvenience, but exciting challenges. Everyone at Lily’s Florist Cessnock is focussed on creating a dazzling arrangement each time – and love doing it! To be truthful, beautiful creations in flowers don’t happen by chance. It really is hard work. As a Cessnock florist we’ve made a deliberate commitment to fashioning beautiful outcomes in floral designs; and as creativity is crucial in our industry, it’s also our overall approach that gives the focus required to make it work. In turn, we have been inspiring people to care about each other.
It may sound like a cliché, but the success of Lily's Florist Cessnock really is about teamwork; and as it’s simple to talk about internal teamwork, it’s the teamwork we enjoy with you, our client, that adds the special something. You see, part of that comes down to procedure, and part to attitude. So, let’s go team!

We at Lily’s Florist Cessnock make orders to Funeral Homes as our uppermost priority. We will even check out the address of the funeral home for you if you do not know the exact address. We generally make contact with the funeral home anyhow to confirm the time of the service and make arrangements for the flower delivery.
Approximately 52 kilometres west of Newcastle is the city of Cessnock in the Hunter Region of New South Wales. Once known as “The Coalfields”, it is the gateway city to the vineyards of the Hunter Valley. The city lies between the earliest European settlements of Australia, such as the Hunter, Hawkesbury and Sydney.
Being on the land-route between these significant settlements, Cessnock provided early European contact with the Aboriginal people of the area who had inhabited the region for over 3,000 years. These Indigenous people were mainly the Darkinjung tribe, who were the major inhabitants at the time of the European contact. This tribe was divided into a few clans; the Wonarua tribe came from the north around the Maitland area, while the Awabakal tribe came from the Lake Macquarie region.
Many of the Darkinjung people were murdered by the Europeans or died from diseases contacted by the colonists. What others that remained were forced into neighbouring tribal territory and also killed. Indigenous place names thrive all around the Cessnock area, such as Kurri Kurri, Congewai, Wollombi and Nulkaba.
Around the 1820s, pastoralists began settling the region, with Wollombi becoming the established centre of the area after the conclusion of the Great North Road during the 1830s. This road linked the Hunter and Hawkesbury Valley.
Wollombi had three hotels by 1850 and was a significant resting spot for travellers as well as a rustic centre for cedar getters and farmers. For the major part of the 19th century, Wollombi remained the largest settlement.
From 1850, Cessnock began to develop as a service centre at the intersection of the Great North Road, having branches to Maitland and Singleton.
Land settlement was widespread during the 1860s, between Pokolbin and Nulkaba, with tobacco, grapes and wheat as the prime crops.
